An orthopaedic treatment plan uses fixed and removable braces and has the philosophy of diagnosing and treating the problems causing the uneven teeth, without extracting teeth to create space. We use different orthodontic appliances to help the jaws properly develop first before using traditional brackets and wires, this minimises the time with fixed braces.
This approach results in healthy face joints, improved profiles and a pleasing, wider smile. Another added bonus to our treatment is that it can be done at any age, our patients range from the age of 3 onwards, we even have patients well into their seventies.
There are different schools of thought in orthodontics of which orthopaedic orthodontics is only one. This method not only treats the symptoms, i.e. the misaligned teeth, but diagnoses and treats the cause of the misalignment of yous teeth. Studies have shown that 99% of the time uneven teeth are not due to the fact that you has too many teeth or that they are too big. It is due to the arches holding the teeth, being too narrow.
Due to the fact that the whole face and chewing system is put back into balance we accomplish improvement in the following areas:
- Healthy jaw joints.
- More attractive profile
- Sufficient lip support (which is being affected in extraction cases)
- Wide smiles (due to the presence of all the teeth)
If you have been to see a mainstream orthodontist who have proposed extractions as part of the treatment plan we can help. With our approach you will not need to have the extractions.
